Periostin is a kind of multifunctional macromolecular glycoprotein discovered in recent years. It is mainly secreted by osteoblasts and their precursor cells, and can also be secreted by tumor cells and para-carcinoma cells. Periostin is a highly conserved functional protein, which participates in the formation of extracellular matrix (ECM) and is closely related to tumor cell adhesion, metastasis and growth. It is a secreted soluble ECM protein. There is great theoretical value to explore the molecular mechanism of periostin promoting tumor cell survival and its relationship with tumor occurrence and development. The findings can provide new targets for clinical detection and treatment of tumors. The author intends to review the structure and function of periostin, mechanism of highly expressed periostin in the occurrence and development of gynecological malignancies, preliminary research on highly expressed periostion in ovarian cancer, cervical cancer, and endometrial cancer, and the new target of periostin for tumor therapy.
