The current study was designed to observe the effects of phloroglucinol on child birth process, plasma cortisol and ratio of glucose/insulin.
Fifty-five primiparae were randomly divided into two groups, phloroglucinol group(n= 26) and control group (n= 29). The labor time, fetal distress and postpartum hemorrhage condition between the two groups were evaluated, meanwhile diversity of plasma cortisol and ratio of glucose/insulin were also observed.
① The mean time of full dilation of cervix was 86. 23 ± 45. 85 min in study group, and 172. 86 ± 144. 32 min was found in control group (P<0. 05).② Comparing to 86. 17 ± 30. 27 minutes during second stage of control group, only 63. 12±29. 47 min was needed to finish second stage in phloroglucinol group (P<0. 05).③ There are no significant difference in the fetal suffocation, weight of newborns and degree of postpartum hemorrhage between the two groups, meanwhile no obvious difference between two groups in plasma cortisol and ratio of glucose/insulin were observed.
Phloroglucinol can effectively improve cervical dilation and decrease labor time, has no adverse effect to puerperas and fetus. Phloroglucinol has no effect on normal stress reaction of puerperas.
