Current research progress of microRNAs and endometriosis

Endometriosis(EMS)refers to presence of endometrium and stromal tissue outside uterine cavity.It is a common benign gynecological disease in reproductive-aged women,which seriously affects women's quality of life.MicroRNAs (miRNA)are non-coding RNA molecules with a length of approximately 22 nt,which exert negative gene regulation by promoting miRNA degradation or translation and inhibition,playing a crucial role in various cellular processes,such as cell differentiation,proliferation,apoptosis,autophagy,and angiogenesis.miRNA are involved in the occurrence and development of EMS,and there are significant differences in expression levels of multiple miRNA between EMS patients and normal reproductive-aged women with insitu endometrium and ectopic endometrium.miRNA have potential to be non-invasive biomarkers for EMS patients,and can provide targeted treatment for EMS patients through their target genes and downstream signaling pathways.In this review,authors will discuss the latest research findings on expression differences of miRNA,their relationship with estrogen synthesis,angiogenesis,EMS related infertility,EMS malignant transformation,and EMS clinical diagnosis and treatment.
