Clinical Analysis of 236 Cases With Febrile Convulsion

Objective

To discuss clinical features of febrile convulsion (FC) so as to provide the basis for the prevention and treatment of disease.

Methods

Clinical data of 236 children with febrile convulsion who were admitted to the Third People's Hospital of Ji'nan City from January 2006 to February 2008 were retrospectively analyzed.

Results

All febrile convulsion children were recovery after treatment. Among them, 86 cases who were difficult to control convulsion received Diazepam plus phenobarbital sodium treatment, and then recovered. The average length of stay was 5 days. Follow-up 1 year after discharge, 45 children were recurrence, including 32 cases recurred once, 13 cases recurred more than twice. Finally, 6 cases were diagnosed as epilepsy (2.5%).

Conclusion

Febrile convulsion is associated closely with high fever, and infectious diseases are main basic diseases. Febrile convulsion could get good prognosis under the active comprehensive treatment. Appropriate intervention measures should be given to a very small number of high-risk development of epilepsy in children with febrile convulsion, but not free of its long-term preventive use of antiepileptic drugs.
