Research progress of feeding methods in preventing neonatal necrotizing enterocolitis

Neonatal necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is a devastating disease of premature infants and is associated with significant mortality. It is well established that the feeding strategies, such as the choice of milk, time of initiation of enteral feeds, and the rate of increasing milk play important roles on the incidence or reoccurrence of neonatal NEC. Currently there is no consensus among healthcare professionals on feeding methods in preterm infants. We review the research progress of feeding methods in preventing neonatal NEC in order to provide references for feeding methods in preventing neonatal NEC.
