Objective

Observe clinical effects of Motherwort injection and oxytocin in preventing postpartum hemorrhage(PPH) during cesarean section.

Methods

From January to December 2009, 260 women who delivered by cesarean section in Maternal and Child Health Hospital of Guanghan were include in the study. They were divided randomly into experimental group(n=130)and control group(n=130). Immediately after fetal delivery, experimental group was given Motherwort injection 4 mL+ oxytocin 20 IU, and when postoperative 2 h given Motherwort injection 2 mL every 12 h(3-5d). Meanwhile, control group was given oxytocin 20 IU only. The study protocol was approved by the Ethical Review Board of Investigation in Human Being of Maternal and Child Health Hospital of Guanghan City.Informed consent was obtained from each patient.

Results

①After Motherwort was given during cesarean section, the obvious effective rate, the effective rate and inefficiency rate were 95.00%, 5.00% and 0, respectively in experimental group, while those of the control group were 88.00%, 5.00% and 7.00%, respectively. There was significant difference in the obvious effective rate between two groups(P<0.05). ②There was no significant difference in effective rate of hemorrhage after postoperative 24 h between two groups.③There had no significant difference in hematocrits(HCT) value between two groups before and after surgery.

Conclusions

The application of Motherwort injection combined with oxytocin has obvious effect in preventing postpartum hemorrhage in cesarean section.
