Natural killer T(NKT)cells are a unique subset of lymphocytes, which express both T and natural killer(NK) cell surface markers as well as functional characteristics. They connect innate and acquired immunity, restrictedly recognize glycolipid antigens presented by CD1d molecule and influence the balance between T helper cell type 1 (Th1)and Th2 by regulating the secretion of cytokines. Natural killer T cells participate in the immune regulation generally. Focus on recent years found that natural killer T cells played important roles in Th1/Th2 imbalance and airway hyper responsiveness (AHR) of asthma. This paper reviewed the progress of the characteristics of natural killer T cells and the association with bronchial asthma.
