Current research status on relationship between regulatory T cells and endometriosis

Endometriosis (EMS) is a common benign disease in women of childbearing age. EMS has similar characteristics of malignant tumor in clinical behavior, and its pathogenesis has not been fully elucidated so far. It is still lack of an effective strategy of clinical diagnosis and treatment for EMS. Previous studies have found that abnormal immune regulation functions play an important role in occurrence and development of EMS. Regulatory T cells (Treg) are a subgroup of CD4+ CD25+ T cells with immunosuppressive function, which play an important role in maintaining human immune balance and inducing immune tolerance. Therefore, Treg play an important role in occurrence and development of EMS. This article focuses on discussion of relationship between Treg imbalance and EMS, and current research progresses of Treg imbalance as a potential therapeutic target in EMS diagnosis and treatment.
