Objective

To study the feasibility of GoPubMed to research status on breast cancer by bibliometric analysis method.

Methods

According to bibliometric analysis method, " breast neoplasms" " breast cancer" " breast carcinoma" and " mammary neoplasms" were selected as docuterms, 98 462 literatures on breast cancer research, which were in accordance with the inclusion and exclusion criteria of this study, from January 1, 2004 to April 29, 2016 in PubMed database were included as study subjects. The research situation and development trend of research on breast cancer were studied by statistical analysis of high-frequency key words and published year, country, city, the distribution of journals and the research trend of breast cancer.

Results

The number of published literatures of research on breast cancer showed a gradual upward trend included in PubMed database from 2004 to 2015. United States and China were the countries with the top two largest amount of published literatures on breast cancer research in PubMed database within the time of literature retrieval among 98 462, areas and cities with large amount of published literatures were concentrated in the countries of North America and Europe. Beijing and Shanghai were among the top 10 cities with a large amount of published literatures on breast cancer research. Magazines which published a large amount of literatures on breast cancer research were concentrated in magazines published by countries in Europe and the United States. Only one kind of magazines published in Asia was among the top 10 magazines with a large amount of published literatures on breast cancer research. At present, the breast cancer research mainly focused on the oneset age, gene mutation and protein and so on.

Conclusions

GoPubMed is a useful tool to research the current situation and development trend on breast cancer. The studies of breast cancer are mainly concentrated in countries of North America and Europe. Research on breast cancer in China is relatively weak besides Beijing and Shanghai.
