Visualized analysis of progress in neonatal septicemia in China through co-word analysis method

Objective

To study the progress of neonatal septicemia(NS) by using co-word and social network analysis in China, then build visualized network and predict the development trends in the future.

Methods

From January 1st 1960 to May 28th 2014, a total of 1 719 articles about NS from China Biology Medicine (CBM) disc and Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) were found out according to the keywords"neonatal","septicemia". They were divided into stage 1960-1993, stage 1994-2003, stage 2004-2014 by Endnote X6. The core-key words were taken out from 3 stages and the co-occurrence matrix was built by Bicom 2. Then visualized network was drawn by Ucinet 6.0.The differences between core-key words frequency and its correlation were compared.

Results

The number of articles in 3 stages were 257, 655, 807, respectively.They were published in 401 kinds of medical journals, and the number of author's affiliation were 477.The visualized network of NS in China was successfully built, and it directly reflected the changes of hot topics in this field. The NS research at stage 1960-1993 were focus on its clinical recognition.Diagnosis and treatment of NS were much accounted at stage 1994-2003. The NS research at stage 2004-2014 mainly dedicated to early detection of infection index, drug-resistance bacteria and antibiotic application of NS.

Conclusions

The research of NS in China started in the 1960s, and had made great progress after 1994. The definition and diagnosis of NS changes consistent with abroad. At present, the current diagnostic studies pay more attention to the clinical manifestations and early infection index selection, with the decline in the proportion of blood culture of bacteria. Antibiotic resistance research is one of the research hotspots in NS therapy, immunotherapy research has declined in the number of recent 10 years but still is of further study value.
