Diagnostic Test of Laparoscopy and Hysterosalpingography on Examination of Fallopian Tube in Infertile Women

Objective

To compare the diagnostic value of hydrotubation under laparoscopy and hysterosalpingography(HSG) for tubal patency assessment.

Methods

108 patients suffering from tubal infertility were examined by hydrotubation under laparoscopy and hysterosalpingography before they underwent surgical fallopian tube recanalization.The sensitivity and specificity of 2 methods were compared with the postoperative diagnosis which was regarded as gold standard.

Results

The sensitivity of hydrotubation under laparoscopy was significantly higher than that of hysterosalpingography(96.0% and 83.6% respectively, P<0.05). The specificity of hydrotubation under laparoscopy was also significantly higher than that of hysterosalpingography(82.9% and 57.1% respectively, P<0.05).

Conclusion

Hydrotubation under laparoscopy is a more accurate procedure in assessing tubal patency.
